Visit Banks Mill during our Winter Open Studios to meet over 50 artists, designers, makers and creative services businesses. As well as seeing first-hand how our artists create their unique designs and handmade products, you can also buy original work directly from the artists themselves, offering an experience that can’t be found on the high street. Alternatively, meet one of our creative service businesses to discuss how they can support you, from digital and video promotion to professional photography services.

Located on Bridge Street in the heart of Derby, Banks Mill Studios is a thriving creative hub managed by the University of Derby. Once a historic textile mill, it now houses artists, makers and designers working across a wide range of disciplines, including illustration, ceramics, printmaking, music and glasswork. The studios provide affordable workspaces, mentoring and professional support, helping emerging creatives turn their passions into sustainable careers within a welcoming community.

The Banks Mill Open Studios event offers visitors the chance to explore five floors of creative spaces, take part in workshops and purchase unique handmade pieces directly from local makers. This year’s event provides a rare glimpse into Derby’s vibrant creative scene, celebrating art, collaboration and the power of making together.

Entry to the event is free, and everyone is welcome to explore the studios and meet the artists who make Banks Mill such a vibrant part of Derby’s creative community.
