QUAD’s Family Friendly Summer Holiday Activities - films and creative activities for families

Family Friendly workshop Make and Take with artist Helen Jackson is suitable for families with children aged three and above. Join us to make whatever you want, using a mixture of creative materials. Your imagination awaits! Make and Take is FREE to attend takes place every Monday in August: 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th of August from 1:30pm to 4:00pm, the sessions are free to attend. This drop-in workshop will take place in QUAD’s Gallery space. To ensure social distancing, activity time will be limited to 20 minutes per family and a maximum of 4 families at once.

 

Young Peoples workshops

KIDSQUAD: Create In The Gallery 
Suitable for ages seven to eleven years, be inspired by photography on display in QUAD gallery and have a go at creating some of your own. Using DSLR cameras, take photographs which play with light and dark and reverse graffiti. KIDSQUAD: Create In The Gallery takes place on Monday 9th August from 10:00am to 12:30pm, tickets are £5 each and booking is essential.

 

MinecraftLAB: Wing World 

Suitable for ages eight to fourteen to work with others to plan, build and explore a new internet in Minecraft. Inspired by the FORMAT21 exhibition Famous Internet Sites, this MinecraftLAB workshop will ask you to create a world where wings are the main form of transport. MinecraftLAB: Wing World takes place on 6th and 20th July from 2:00pm to 4:30pm. Booking is essential, and tickets are £5 per child. This workshop is available both online and onsite at QUAD. Please only book for onsite if you are not able to join online, as tickets for onsite places are very limited to ensure social distancing. For online participants a PC or Mac that can run JAVA Minecraft will be required for this session

 

Arts Award Discover in a Day 

Suitable for ages eight to fourteen years, join artist Abbie Canning to spend the day learning all about art. Arts Award Discover in a Day will be a chance to explore QUAD’s exhibition and make work, experimenting with a variety of different artforms including traditional and digital technology. Young people you will learn about a variety of artists and share their creations with the group. From printing and sculpture to sketching and digital drawing, young people will be able to get creative and begin their Arts Award journey, earning themselves an Arts Council England Discover Arts Award Certificate. 

Arts Award Discover in a Day takes place on Tuesday 10th August from 10:00am until 3:30pm. Booking is essential, and the cost is £25 per child. A packed lunch and a snack will be required for this session. A limited number of bursary places are available for those in receipt of free school meals, email [email protected]  for further information. 

 

Robot Game Making in Roblox workshop

Suitable for those aged ten to eighteen years, Robot Game Making in Roblox is a workshop where participants can build their own robot themed games in Roblox Studio. Creative Technologist Ashley James Brown will be offering expert guidance into studio design space, objects and materials, programming logic, leader boards, pickups and more. The finished games can also be submitted to The Robot Day 2021 Roblox Game Making competition, in partnership with the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET). Robot Game Making in Roblox workshop takes place on Wednesday 11thAugust, from 10:00am to 4:00pm, booking is essential, and the cost is £15 per person.Participants will need to create a Roblox account before the start of the workshop.

 

3D Robot Building in Blender

Suitable for those aged ten to eighteen years, 3D Robot Building workshop is an introduction to 3D modelling, to design and build a robot in Blender. Led by Digital Participation Curator John Whall, learn the basics of shape making and how to use materials and colours to bring your robot to life. This workshop is part of the Robot Day 2021 Citizens of Robot World project, in partnership with the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET). Your model will be added to a fully explorable 3D world and showcased at QUAD’s Robot Day 2021 on 6th November. Robot Building in Blendertakes place on Friday 13th and Friday 27th August of from 1:30pm to 4:30pm. Booking is essential, and the cost is £5 per person.

 

DIGISQUAD: Digital iPad Animation Workshop 
Suitable for ages twelve to sixteen years this is a workshop to create digital animation using iPad apps with artist Helen Jackson. Bring QUAD Gallery to life, using a mixture of drawing and stop motion animation techniques DIGISQUAD: Digital iPad Animation Workshop takes place on Monday 2nd August from 10:00am to 12:30pm, tickets are £5 each and booking is essential.

In QUAD Cinemas, Cine Kids films will be shown every day of the summer holidays. 

Shorts For Wee Ones (U), suitable for families with younger children aged three and above. Featuring shorts from around the world, these magical films are a colourful introduction to the cinema experience. There’s a little mouse quietly obsessed with cleanliness, a thrilling high-speed chase through the streets of a French port (on tricycles!) and a reindeer faced with endless avalanches that keep burying his little cabin in the woods. Shorts For Wee Ones (U) screens in QUAD from Friday 23rd July to Thursday 29th July.

 

In Dogtanian And The Three Muskehounds, ambitious young swordsman Dogtanian dreams of joining the legendary Muskehounds. After proving his skill and earning their trust, he and the three Muskehounds must defend the King from the villainous Cardinal Richelieu’s secret plot to seize power. Based on the animated series Dogtanian And The Three Muskehounds (U) screens in QUAD from Friday 23rd July to Thursday 5thAugust.

 

Back by popular demand, Peter Rabbit 2 (U) screens in QUAD from Friday 30th July to Thursday 5th August. 

 

Over the summer holidays QUAD will also be screeningHotel Transylvania 4, Spirit Untamed, The Croods 2, Space Jam: A New Legacy, Jungle Cruise and Paw Patrol The Movie.

 

With snacks, drinks and smaller portion meals for younger visitors, QUAD’s Family Friendly Café Bar is open daily from 10:00am.

 

 

QUAD is open to the public with full COVID-compliant measures in place. The venue requires all visitors to observe current government regulations regarding social distancing and mask-wearing.
